Press Release #3
Constanta, 30 April 2025 - The INAIR project, funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme, proudly announces the successful completion of Work Package 4 AI Core Curriculum for MSMEs in Retail. Led by TEAM4Excellence (Romania), this work package lays the educational foundation for enabling micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the retail sector to adopt and apply artificial intelligence (AI) technologies responsibly and effectively. Four strategic outputs have been developed to define learning priorities and support upskilling in AI for retail personnel.
AI Core Curriculum for MSMEs in Retail
This structured and modular curriculum identifies core learning outcomes for AI readiness in the retail sector, tailored specifically for MSMEs. It defines competencies across awareness, practical AI application, strategic innovation, and digital responsibility. The curriculum serves as the pedagogical backbone for future Open Educational Resources (OERs), enabling targeted training for both technical and non-technical retail staff.
Map of Relevant AI Tools for Retail
This interactive online map presents a curated selection of trustworthy and retail-relevant AI tools. Categorised by business function - such as marketing, logistics, customer engagement, and data analytics - the map helps MSMEs navigate the complex landscape of AI solutions. Each tool is accompanied by concise descriptions, use case examples, and criteria for ethical and transparent adoption.
AI Assessment Tool
Designed for retail employees and managers, this self-assessment tool evaluates their current level of AI awareness and digital preparedness. Through a user-friendly questionnaire, it provides personalised feedback and suggestions for improvement. The tool supports organisations in identifying training needs and aligning them with strategic digitalisation goals.
Assessing AI Competences in Retail MSMEs: A Methodological Approach
This scientific publication outlines the methodological framework behind the AI competence assessment process. It details the theoretical foundation, validation process, and implementation strategy used to create the Initial AI Assessment Tool. The article adds academic rigour to the project and can guide other researchers or initiatives aiming to measure digital skills in business environments.
What’s next
With the completion of WP4, the INAIR consortium is now moving forward to the next phase: the creation of Open Educational Resources (OERs) based on the defined curriculum and assessment findings. These resources will be tested in real settings and made freely available to support AI upskilling across European MSMEs in retail. Through these efforts, INAIR continues to empower retail businesses to embrace innovation, digital transformation, and responsible AI adoption.
