Yesterday we hosted our first Virtual Knowledge Café, bringing together partners, stakeholders, and professionals from across Europe to exchange insights on artificial intelligence (AI) and workforce upskilling in the retail sector. The event marked an important milestone as the project enters its final phase, offering both reflection on achievements and a forward-looking dialogue on future needs.

A People-Centred Approach to AI in Retail

While the agenda showcased AI adoption and recent developments within inAiR, the discussions went beyond technology. At the heart of the Knowledge Café were people: the skills to be strengthened, the tools to be created, and the training pathways that address the real challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Europe.

Highlights from the Event

  • Research Findings by DELab – University of Warsaw
DELab presented key results on AI adoption in retail, including trends, barriers, and skills gaps among SMEs. Their insights provided a strong basis for discussions on aligning training and policy with market needs.
  • Curriculum & Assessment Tool by Team4Excellence
Team4Excellence introduced the Curriculum and Assessment Tool developed within the project. This practical resource is designed to support training providers and SMEs in designing effective AI upskilling pathways.
  • Interactive Discussions
Participants from across Europe shared their perspectives on what using AI means in their professional fields today—and how it will shape the future of work. These reflections added a crucial practitioner’s voice to the conversation.

Looking Ahead

The Virtual Knowledge Café generated valuable ideas, new connections, and a renewed commitment to building a skilled, AI-ready workforce in the retail sector. The inAiR consortium will continue to build on these discussions as it advances towards the project’s conclusion.

We extend our sincere thanks to all participants and contributors who made this exchange so enriching.
